Van Gogh Among the Mule Deer

Van Gogh was rejected by women with whom he became enamored and ultimately turned to prostitutes for companionship.

The swell painting of Mule Deer (called such because of their extra large ears)  in the Rocky Mountains is courtesy of an old National Geographic book on wildlife.

Homestories

Not that long ago I made a complete series (out of 30 collages) of human relationships called "Homestories": All collages are a mix of three pieces: German interiors of the 30th, Indian painted movie posters and film stills of the 40th. Because it´s a "young" series and it fit´s so well to the theme, I´m going to show one of them.

Heart, We Will Forget Him

Heart, we will forget him
You an I, tonight
You may forget the warmth he gave,
I will forget the light.
..

(from a poem by Emily Dickinson)

Fancy An Orange?

What else do you say to Nell Gwyn  if she drops by for tea and a game of draughts?

design by committee

theme: adult relationships

I have a Belgian friend who has a keen interest in collage, so I asked her to suggest my last theme for the month. (September will be in the inspired hands of Lynn Skordal.) She said, "Sexual identity, gender roles, relationships between men and women..." I'll broaden it a bit to include female-female and male-male relationships as well. Have fun, y'all, and thanks for all the great collages this past month!

Circles

Sorry, I have been away on holiday with the family in Brighton so missed this weeks theme but I have enjoyed looking in each day on my tablet.  Here's an old collage that will do until I get back into the swing of things!

Geometric Shape

2013 – 40 x 30 cm

She's A Rainbow

Rainbow image courtesy of a portion of artist Pae White's "Restless Rainbow" 2011.  The gals are from a high school year book.  Of course the title is taken from that rockin' Stones song!

I found this instrumental track on YouTube.  1967 studio outtake.

taunting the reaper

Here's a rather strange one from my archives, just to get us started...

theme: geometric shapes

Triangles, circles, squares, rectangles, pentagons, hexagons, etc...and 3-D polyhedral shapes, too, if you like...design your collage with them, or put them into your collage...by themselves or with other things....go geometric!

spotted boxfish meets spacetime anomaly

This poor little spotted boxfish was minding his own business, drifting calmly in orbit around Mercury. Suddenly, a bright pink spacetime anomaly appeared out of nowhere: the fish had no choice but to swim right through it. We don't yet know if he'll survive this frightful encounter!

Thursday 15 August 2013

theme: sea creatures

This was a popular theme back in the days of Scrapiteria, but I don't believe we've ever done it on the KK. You know the list: fish, whales, shrimp, octopus, jellyfish, crabs, seals, and so on. However you want to include one or more of them...go for it!

Noah's Ark

I still haven't got into making new stuff so here's another from the A.1. Archive.

adoration of the plushie toy

"
"Mr. Jefferson" plushie toy by Monster Factory. Everything else came from a tiny used paperback titled Gothic Painting, which has the most tissue-thin, liable to peel, overall fragile paper I have ever encountered. I got so flustered by it I forgot to cut out the black-&-white guy just left of center. =laugh= As for gothic painting, I gather it's a vague category: mostly religious topics, late medieval, pre-Renaissance.

Oh, and don't miss the little white dog...

Princess Irinia's Homies Had Her Back

A bit of nonsense...the three dolls are from a doll auction catalogue.  Sadly I misplaced the info re: their origin, etc.  The Princess is snipped from ?  I do know the background is an endpaper from an old spiral bound daily planner.

Dr Who D.I.Y. Kollage Kit Toy

Great theme Fi for this week. There's been a lot of Doctor Who coverage lately so I decided to make a collage type toy kit.

"Nursery Cryme"

I was inspired by Genesis` LP-cover "Nursery Cryme" and the song "The musical box".

Doll Face

Hello, all!  Been out for awhile, but am slowly betting back into things.  This is an older one, and I'll do my best to get back into the scrapping groove soon.

Snake drawing by Albertus Seba. Speech balloon from 1951 issue of Crime Smashers comics. "Yira 2" giant lizard toy by Go Hero (Steve Forde). "A for Awesome!" sticker from StickerBomb's alphabet book. I couldn't find a photo credit for the guy in the swimsuit.

Exploding Gum

Have been rather distracted this week so here's an old collage which fits the theme from the A1  Archive.

a mother of triplets

I want to get us started on the toys theme, so this is a postcard I made for a mother of triplets in Thailand. Somehow Thai woman plus triplets made me think of a traditional Thai dancer in the act of juggling three things, in this case juggling clubs. Surrounding the dancer is red colored pencil. The background text is a bunch of spliced-together quotations about parenting triplets.

I'm afraid I don't think very highly of this collage from an aesthetic point of view, but it's like the third one I ever made, so I guess I should cut myself a break.

theme: toys

Boys' toys, girls' toys. Men's toys, women's toys. Uni-age and/or uni-sex toys. Toys for play, toys that are serious. Physical, metaphysical, existing only in the world of your collage: whatever you dream up that includes a toy!

Dame bei der Toilette

Ok friends, the original titel from the foreground image is "Dame bei der Toilette" and it is from the school of Fontainebleue, end of the 16th century. Couldn´t fiend a translation and can´t believe that it means "Lady doing the toilette"?!?! Please let me know!!!!!!
Nevertheless here´s my entry to Fi´s theme of the week.

first dinosaur to play hamlet

"Alas, Poor Yorick!" The actor playing Hamlet is a Leaellynasaura: it lived in regions that got cold enough for snow, so it had a coat of downy feathers over much of its body. The theropods that ate it (forelimb in upper right) were similarly equipped for the cold. The costume is the one that Sarah Bernhardt wore when she played Hamlet in 1899.

It apparently makes no difference whether you say that dinosaurs were primitive birds, or that birds are modern dinosaurs. Today all birds are classified in Dinosauria, a subset of Reptilia.

beatlemania arrives in the late triassic

On emerging from their time machine, the Fab Four are greeted by camera-wielding archosaurs (genus Effigia). But don't worry: these sleek, intelligent, fast-moving crocodilians, who run on their hind legs, won't be attacking the Beatles. They don't even have any teeth—just a keratin plate in their jaw and a beak, perfect for cracking seeds, grinding nuts, and possibly killing small vertebrates.

late entry from last week:( Bird hybrid

Table TV for 2033

This collage was originally made for the previous theme but I think I can shoe horn it into this theme quite well by changing the title!
