Theme of the Week - MACHINES GO CRAZY

This theme is especially for my son Archie who has joined the group and hopefully this will encourage him to make a collage this time. I know he loves crazy machines as do I. So anything mechanical - robots - engines - contraptions etc. Have fun!

MonoColor

Not sure what is going on here....but the artist pictured in 1987
is framed at the bottom in an over-sized suit!

Sergeant Paper's Lovely Arts Club Band

An old theme I've returned to thanks to P. Blake. Can you spot me? I was so much older then - I'm younger than that now.

The Gathering

Background from a book about the coast of the United States.  Owl from a children's book about animals. Dancer from a book about ballet. Muscle man from an anatomy book. My cameo is a photo booth photograph circa 1985.

"Gotcha!"

Lots of leftovers from the last themes that didn't make it in the end, brought together into a new piece.
The lady on the left wears my handmade prints..
Where am I?
That's me swimming ... the girl on the right ... with one sister and one brother..
I am very good in making myself disappear in photo's ;))

THEME: FREE for ALL! But YOU Must Make a Cameo ala Alfred Hitchcock

English film director Alfred Hitchcock made cameo appearances in 39 of his 52 surviving major films.  He might be seen boarding a bus, crossing in front of a building, appearing in a newspaper photograph, etc.

You get the picture.

YOU can make a collage about ANYTHING.  But it must include an image of YOU!

JUST ADDED:  The image of you can be from any period of your life...infancy, childhood, teenager, young adult, middle years, now.

Have F U N with this O N E!

Theme Mash-Up

Couldn't resist doing The Rolling Stones on the cover of VOGUE!  Hey, somebody had to do it!  Again, another of my trusty postcard size VOGUE covers and I happened to have a postcard with the early Stones on it.  Voilá!

Groundbreaking VOGUE Cover

Found my box of postcards that included some with reproduced VOGUE covers.  The model (covering Jean Shrimpton's lovely face on that issue of VOGUE) is "Baby Viola", who was a side-show circus performer in the Hagenback-Wallace Circus.  Photo is circa 1920s.

Two from the archives (and no, these aren't the actual wonderful Vogue covers, just images pulled on-line...)

Delayed ....

... but I have a good excuse: I was on an exciting 4 weeks trip through the USA (where I had a great time with a wonderful collage artist friend ;-) and came back to my "base camp" just a few days ago. I hope this will count for my late contribution for our last week´s theme!?

"Barbary Lion - King of the carnivorous animals"

On the cover of the Rolling Stone OR On the cover of VOGUE

Last evening I had the pleasure of attending an event featuring two major players/icons from the culture of music and fashion of the 1960s/1970s. Pattie Boyd and Henry Diltz.

Pattie, English model, photographer and author.  Henry, legendary photographer of rock stars whose work has graced hundreds of album covers as well as books, newspapers and magazines.  AND YES Pattie appeared on the cover of VOGUE 4 times and quite a few of Henry's photos became ROLLING STONE covers.

Have fun!

Well-Polished Postillions

For those who do not know what a postillion is:

  1. a person who rides the leading left-hand horse of a team or pair drawing a coach or carriage, especially when there is no coachman.

And you can be sure the Queen or King would have well-polished riders!

A Treasure Bobbing Along the Rocky Coast

With Queen Victoria's accession in June, 1837, the stoneware gin-flask potters of Lambeth set to work designing a wide variety of portrait bottles of the young Queen and her family.  The bobbing stoneware gin-flask is a rare souvenir.  In a style resembling a medieval stone carving, it depicts Victoria in coronation regalia.

The King of Rock and Roll

Hunka Hunka Burnin' Love

King Knut's Kourt

Slightly too large for the scanner so had to take a photo, so not as sharp as it should be in places!

'Josephine ... Cutting Queen'

One from the archives ..... a pre-historic selfie.

Monarchy

Simple!  Have fun!!

Theme influenced by the news coverage of Queen Elizabeth surpassing the reign of her great-great grandmother Queen Victoria, a woman so powerful that she stamped an era with her name.

Old School

Well, it's a little tortured, but at least you can have some fun spotting Sean Penn, Lil Jon, Ryan Seacrest and George Clooney...

Dreams of Pleasant School Days

The background is an antique photo-offset lithograph print of Old Faithful Geyser, Yellowstone National Park, circa 1902, published by A. W. Mumford, Chicago. Various other elements from Dover clip-art books and a children's book.

The Lost Art of Penmanship

Penmanship is sadly not something being taught in school anymore.  In a June 22, 2014 article published in The News-Gazette of Champaign, IL entitled "The Lost Art of Cursive Handwriting," John Foreman wrote:

"Most schools are no longer required to teach cursive writing, and many do not.  Their logic is simple:  Children no longer need handwriting.  Modern communication is done with a keyboard -- email, text messages, what have you.  Cursive is a useless art."

Very sad. : (

The background of antique books is from an auction catalogue.  The hand holding the pen and Quink ink bottle are from a vintage magazine advertisement.  I have been cutting out fountain pens for some time now so I threw a couple more in for good measure.

THEME: School Supplies

Yes, it is that time of year...some children and young adults are already back at the books and others will be starting their lessons very soon.  AND SO it is time to think about buying (or fondly remember buying) all the necessary items that made going back to school a special time. (I know it was for me!)  Conjure up those items into collage form and have fun...

AND don't forget a school can be for more than primary/secondary education.  Doctors go to school.  Artists go to school.  Clowns go to school. ; ) They do! They do!  Use your imagination...

Horsepower

A tip of the hat to Chinese Astrology.
Year of the Horse --
which won't happen again until 2026!

Found that swell Mercedes Benz photograph in a vintage Paris Match magazine.  Picked up a book about horses at an estate sale a couple of weeks ago and they were perfectly sized for this collage.
