adventures in pet walking

For this one, I had to cope with my incompetence as a collage artist: it didn't turn out the way I imagined it in my mind beforehand. I won't tell y'all what went wrong, 'cause that would just be lame. =laugh=

The Coronet

In Dutch 'the coronet' translates as 'de hoofdtooi' and that means something on the head with feathers.

Pamela and Her Primate Pets

One from the archives (yikes! I created this collage five years ago for The Kollage Kit! where does the time go?) I think the theme was LOVE. I reworked the title. Hope to get in the studio later this week to create a new collage for this week's excellent theme!

The Craft of the Chandler

Here is a word I did not know the definition of! According to dictionary.com:

Chandler : a person who makes or sells candles and sometimes other items of tallow or wax, as soap

The Artist's World

We have visitors at the moment so difficult to get into the workroom for any meaningful collage. Here's one from the archive you may not have seen before.

the cobbler's dream

As Edgar A. Poe expressed it:

Is all that we see or seem
But a dream within a dream?

A collage of portraits ..

Since this is an 'arts and crafts' theme and I just can't stop painting and drawing the last few weeks, I thought I would include this gallery of portraits I made today ;))

Edwin Resisted All Suggestion That His Basket Weaving Made Him Squirrely

"Basket Weaving, an innocuous activity of early occupational therapy is also the go-to trope for all things mental and pointless.

Why? Where did it all go wrong? Why so much hate for basket weaving? And what does this do for the therapy modalities associated with it?"

beethoven was a sunday painter

From my archives. (I don't think y'all have seen this one before.)

With apologies to Andy Warhol, from whom I lifted both Beethoven (but not his painting) & the little dog. The beauty is British actress Jean Simmons (Guys and Dolls, Elmer Gantry, Spartacus).

government redaction

Does this collage strike you as... well... weird? Does it seem different from my usual style (whatever that is)? I hope so.

I have Jo to thank for this one: the combination of a background grid pattern, and paranoia about what the government is up to (endemic in the U.S. right now, for sure), seemed to work for me in my "they're watching us" collage. And Jo pointed that out. So I did it again: background grid, weird blues, paranoia about the government.

And thanks to Ron, too, for suggesting a theme that gets me out of my usual neatnik O-C sort of style. As Rilke so memorably put it, "Du mußt dein Leben ändern." ("You must change your life.") Sometimes in order for change to happen, things have to get messy during the transition. =laugh=

In the Mid-1960s Ol' Blue Eyes Donned a Beatle Wig and Reinvented Himself

After all, Frank did try to have hits with songs like "Downtown", "Something" and "MacArthur Park"!

Gee Whiz 5

Been away on our travels again so not much time for collaging. Amsterdam is lovely in the Spring! But here is a page from the new Gee Whiz which does contain two musical references if you look closely. A link to the download of all 20 pages is HERE.

Some more random mail art, seems to fit the theme...

Der Himmel voller Geigen

“Der Himmel voller Geigen”
is a German phrase – the literal translation means “The heaven is full of violins”
and the rough translation means “He sees things through rose-colored glasses.”
This is one of the latest collaborations Lynn and I made - and it fits too perfectly to the theme for not to be shown: Music, Bollywood, instruments .... all we need for this week!

This week's theme: Musicals and Music

With the recent massive success of La La Land, I thought this might be a good time to revisit the popular subject of music.
Musicals, (Hollywood, Broadway and the like...) is the main theme but anything musically related is allowed. Strike up the band and the glue and scissors etc.... - Ron

In The Park

cat tree, embellished

With our previous oriental shorthairs, we'd never seen the need for one of those tacky scratched-up cat trees, but shortly after getting our most recent pair of kittens, we realized that our breeder wasn't kidding when she said, "These, you will find, are very vertical." They weren't just jumping up on our shoulders, they were jumping to the tops of doors, cabinets, you name it—including all the way to the ceiling in our kitchen! So we did some shopping and found a vertical cat tree for our intrepid explorers.

What you see behind the cat tree is a partial view of a whole wall of floor-to-ceiling bookcases that my husband made. About my gold-and-blue collage: the background is an Oscar de la Renta design from the cover of the new United States Postal Service philatelic magazine, in honor of a new series of de la Renta stamps; the foreground is a photo of a liquid crystal diode, exploded after being exposed to a strong electrical field.

The ingenious art forgery

I am in a painting mood lately, so I made this study yesterday ;))

Theme: Collages in Real Life

This theme was inspired by Michael's Ken Dodd collage below from a few weeks ago.

The challenge is placing your collage work in a real interior or exterior situation interacting with objects, landscape, plant, flower or whatever. Just take a picture and post it here. All the best - Ron.
